Media Links Secures Major European Contract For MD8000

Media Links, a leading provider of high-definition video transport solutions, has announced that it has secured a major contract for its new MD8000 Media Transport System.
The deal was overseen by Media Links' regional partner VIDI and is part of a wider agreement with Alcatel-Lucent.
Media Links has supplied core technology for the Next Generation IP contribution network (called Broadcast NGN) currently being built in Germany by MEDIA Broadcast with the technology now beginning to be used.
The network is connecting over 80 sites across the country and will be used for Bundesliga football coverage as well as other domestic programming.
According to the service provider: "With Broadcast NGN customers receive a standardised, open IP platform with various service level agreements (SLAs) and service classes. Customer's VPNs can also be integrated and managed by the customers themselves."
Media Links has supplied video transport edge equipment including the HD-GigE, HD compression codec and IP video gateway and the MD-003 GETR, 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch.
It has also supplied its next generation MD8000, the IP-based multiservice switching and transport platform. The technology has been supplied in conjunction with Alcatel-Lucent 7750 series IP routers as part of the joint arrangement.
The MD8000 is designed to satisfy the needs of users today and also those of tomorrow with scalable bandwidth - from 10 Mbit/s to 10 Gbit/s - thereby allowing the transport of compressed and uncompressed HD, SD, audio and data.
It is built to work transparently with today's popular high-realiability SONET/SDH architectures as well as tomorrow's low-cost, high-performance IP core-based systems.
The system will support simultaneous interconnections among a range of networking technologies, providing a smooth migration path as networking technologies evolve.
Its predecessor - the MD6000 - has been used for major events such as the FIFA World Cup and the Doha Asian Games.
Mario Frattaroll, President of Media Links, said: "We are excited to see our technology being deployed for this Next Generation Network. It highlights the company's ability to provide cutting edge IP technology and its ability to work closely with other leading suppliers to provide flexible, multi-vendor solutions and better support our customers."
