Media Links Provides IP Transport Infrastructure

News Image
Media Links has supplied its Xscend® platform and MDP3020 IP media gateways to support live broadcast contribution for the All-Asia Games, which took place in Japan from September through October 2026.

The deployment marks the first time Media Links has supported the multi-sport event, extending the company's experience in transporting live video for major international sporting competitions to one of Asia’s largest sporting events.

The solution was designed to manage live video feeds from multiple venues and deliver them to a central broadcasting facility for distribution to broadcasters and media rights holders across Asia.

MDP3020 IP media gateways were deployed at event venues, while Xscend 2RU Media over IP systems were installed at the broadcasting centre.

Live video was encoded using JPEG-XS and transported to the central facility, where the Xscend systems received and aggregated feeds before distributing them to broadcasters and media rights holders throughout the region.

The architecture was designed to provide the flexibility required for a distributed, multi-venue sporting event while maintaining the reliability needed for live broadcast operations.

The compact systems can be configured remotely as operational requirements change, while JPEG-XS compression reduces bandwidth demands while maintaining visually lossless image quality and very low latency.

Toshiyuki Naka, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Media Links, said: "Major sporting events leave very little room for uncertainty. With dozens of venues feeding live content into a central broadcast operation, the transport layer has to be dependable while adapting quickly as requirements change. That is where our experience comes into play. It is an approach to reliable IP transport that we have refined through years of supporting some of the world’s largest live sporting events."

Media Links' regional partner NSR (New Share Report) proposed the solution in collaboration with SinoTech, the systems integrator responsible for supporting the deployment.

The project reflects Media Links’ experience in large-scale live sports broadcasting, alongside the operational demands of delivering live content from multiple venues to a central broadcast operation.

By combining venue-based IP media gateways with centralised Xscend processing, the system provided the transport infrastructure required to distribute live event coverage to broadcasters and rights holders across Asia.
