SBS Appoints Kathryn Fink Chief Content Officer

SBS has unveiled a refreshed executive line-up, naming Kathryn Fink as Chief Content Officer and elevating Matthew Hancock to Director of Digital, with both appointments taking effect immediately.

The restructure consolidates core content operations to steer strategy and delivery across linear channels, audio, digital and third‑party platforms, highlighting the increasing prominence of SBS On Demand as audience behaviour evolves.

In her expanded brief, Fink will oversee Television and Online Content, Sport, National Indigenous Television (NITV), Audio and Language Content, Digital, and Marketing and Audiences. The combined portfolio is designed to enable more integrated planning and execution across all SBS platforms, while reflecting the organisation’s breadth, including audio services in more than 60 languages.

Fink, a seasoned international media executive, joined SBS as Director of Television in July 2022 following senior roles at The Walt Disney Company, Sky Italia and News Corp. She led SBS’s record-breaking coverage of the 2026 FIFA World CupTM, which reached more than 18.1 million Australians, and the launch of Alone Australia, the network’s most successful original commission, now moving into its fifth season.

As Director of Digital, Hancock will be responsible for digital audience growth, product development and platform strategy, with a strong emphasis on further innovating SBS On Demand. He joins the SBS Executive and will report to Fink, working closely with technology, commercial, marketing and audience teams.

Hancock has been with SBS since 2016 and became General Manager of Streaming & Digital Products in July 2024, after earlier roles at Screen Producers Australia, Screen Australia and the Australian Film Commission. Under his leadership, SBS On Demand has grown into one of Australia’s highest rated streaming services, featuring a catalogue of more than 15,000 hours of local and international content, 16.9 million registered users, and market-leading multilingual discovery and navigation.

Also reporting to Fink under the new structure are the Director of Audio & Language Content and the Director of Marketing & Audiences. Both remain on the SBS Executive and have a dual reporting line to the Managing Director. Recruitment is underway for a new Director of Audio & Language Content.
