Gravity Media Extends Santos Tour Down Under Broadcast Partnership
Gravity Media has secured a four-year extension to its broadcast production partnership with the South Australian Tourism Commission for the Santos Tour Down Under, following a comprehensive tender process.
The agreement will see the global production and media services company continue to deliver Australian and international coverage of the event, which is recognised as the biggest cycling race in the Southern Hemisphere.
Gravity Media has produced the race's broadcast coverage for the past five years and will continue to provide all-screens coverage of the men’s and women’s competitions as the event opens the UCI WorldTour calendar.
The extended partnership will see more than 50 hours of live coverage produced and distributed to 190 territories worldwide. The output will also include daily highlights programmes for domestic and international audiences, overall event highlights, daily video news releases and short-form content tailored for digital platforms.
Extensive broadcast production operation
Gravity Media will continue working with the Seven Network to deliver the complete broadcast production of the Santos Tour Down Under, which takes place in January.
The production will combine Gravity Media’s satellite news gathering fleet with mobile cellular and cloud-based technologies, linking operations in South Australia to the company’s Production Centre in Sydney.
The broadcast operation will feature a high-definition outside broadcast truck, satellite units and a multi-camera setup designed to capture the action across the race route.
Coverage will also incorporate cameras mounted on chase motorcycles, helicopter aerial filming, drones and specialist miniature cameras installed in team cars. Additional equipment will capture the peloton in super slow motion.
A dedicated team of approximately 130 personnel will support the production, working both on-site in South Australia and remotely from the Sydney Production Centre.
Global reach for cycling's opening WorldTour event
The Santos Tour Down Under brings leading men's and women's teams and riders to South Australia, showcasing the region's landscapes to audiences around the world.
As the opening event of the UCI WorldTour, the race forms part of the international professional cycling calendar, alongside major competitions such as the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España.
The four-year extension reinforces Gravity Media’s ongoing role in delivering the event’s international broadcast coverage, combining traditional live television production with digital and short-form content to reach audiences across multiple platforms.
