Rohde & Schwarz Unveils Compact QPS Walk500 Scanner

Rohde & Schwarz will introduce the QPS Walk500 walk-through security scanner at Security Expo 2026 in Essen from 22 to 25 September, extending its screening range alongside the proven QPS201 static scanner.

The new model is a more compact variant of the QPS Walk2000, purpose-built for venues managing very high visitor volumes.

Rohde & Schwarz security scanners are deployed across sectors with stringent access control, including aviation, border controls, data centres, correctional facilities, loss prevention, critical infrastructure such as nuclear sites, and major events. Screening at very large gatherings must reliably detect weapons, explosives and other prohibited items while keeping queues moving.

Engineered for event security, the QPS Walk500 allows people to pass through continuously without stopping or removing coats and other outerwear. With a throughput of up to 750 people per hour, it is designed to support efficient, dependable checks at peak times.

The system combines millimetre-wave technology with AI-driven algorithms to identify a broad spectrum of materials — from metals and plastics to liquids, granules, organic substances and ceramics — including potential threats that conventional metal detectors may miss.

Automatic threat detection pinpoints suspicious objects on a neutral avatar, enabling security teams to focus follow-up inspections precisely where needed and shorten interactions. An optional hand-masking function lets visitors hold everyday items such as mobile phones, wallets and keys without disrupting the scan, further improving flow.

Featuring a lightweight, open design, the QPS Walk500 offers a flexible alternative to traditional access control systems. Intuitive audible and visual indicators aid ease of use, and the compact form factor targets applications demanding the highest throughput.
