PlayBox Neo Unveils Security and Scale Upgrades at Broadcast Asia

News Image
At Broadcast Asia 2026, PlayBox Neo will debut a significant series of upgrades to its PlayBox Neo Suite, focusing on securing and streamlining hybrid broadcast workflows. A major highlight is the introduction of a role-based user management system and Active Directory integration via LDAP, allowing enterprise-level security and simplified credential management. Additionally, the company has optimized its Multiviewer to reduce bandwidth usage by 70%, a critical improvement for remote and cloud-based production teams. These updates, along with deeper EditShare integration and "edit-while-capture" ingest capabilities, are designed to meet the high-pressure demands of live news and sports broadcasting.

A key enhancement is a role-based user management system that lets administrators define granular access to specific functions and toolsets within the PlayBox Neo Suite. The change is designed to strengthen security, accountability and day‑to‑day transparency in demanding production settings with multiple concurrent users, editors and engineers.

PlayBox Neo now integrates with Active Directory via LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) with SSL encryption, enabling organisations to manage logins and permissions through existing IT infrastructure rather than maintaining separate credentials. This simplifies user administration, aligns with enterprise IT standards and reinforces security as broadcast operations become part of larger corporate networks.

Performance tuning to the PlayBox Neo Multiviewer reduces bandwidth usage to 30%, benefitting remote and cloud-based teams where connectivity can be limited or costly. By lowering data demands without compromising video quality, users gain more stable monitoring, faster response times and lower operational overheads.

Support has been expanded for EditShare, the widely used platform for collaborative editing, shared storage and media asset management. The integration ensures media files are consistently identified and tracked across systems including playout servers, newsroom software and automation.

Ingest workflows have also been streamlined so media can be automatically registered and made available for editing while recording is in progress, rather than waiting for capture to complete. This significantly cuts turnaround times, helping teams to edit, produce and deliver content faster—especially vital for sports coverage and live news.

Further updates add support for both physical and virtual GPI (General Purpose Interface). While traditional GPI allows external hardware such as control panels to trigger actions, virtual GPI enables software-based triggers for easier integration with cloud-based or automated workflows, reducing reliance on specific hardware set‑ups.

PlayBox Neo now supports the AJA KONA IP25 IP converter card, enabling compatibility with SMPTE ST 2110 for high‑quality, low‑latency video in next‑generation broadcast environments. Support for SMPTE ST 2022-7 further enhances resilience by ensuring uninterrupted signal delivery in the event of network issues.

The company's solutions remain modular and easily customisable, providing the precise capabilities needed for any scale of channel playout management—from ingest and scheduling through to transmission.

"We look forward to meeting up with industry professionals in Singapore again this month, after a highly successful NAB Show in Las Vegas. PlayBox Neo technology is designed around our customer's needs, and we continue to work on enhancing our offering to provide leading-edge solutions that transform businesses to work efficiently in varying and complex media settings," noted PlayBox Neo CEO and founder Pavlin Rahnev, "Designed for maximum flexibility, our products deliver seamless, high-performance broadcast operations by simplifying integration, boosting security, and making workflows easier at all levels."
