Airports Of Thailand To Install Rohde & Schwarz Millimetre-Wave Security Scanners

Rohde & Schwarz's QPS201 advanced imaging technology (AIT) security scanners are being rolled out across five Airports of Thailand (AOT) facilities, including Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, a major Asian hub handling around 60 million passengers annually.

The company has secured an award to supply ECAC- and TSA-certified QPS201 units for passenger screening checkpoints at AOT-managed sites. Suvarnabhumi’s vast single-terminal complex, which serves both domestic and international flights, is among the locations.

Using millimetre-wave technology and AI-driven algorithms, the QPS201 combines advanced detection with low false alarm rates. Passengers adopt a brief hands-down pose for scans that take only milliseconds, while any areas of concern are shown on a standardised digital avatar that protects personal privacy. Its open design aims to make screening more accessible and streamline throughput for travellers and staff alike.

The QPS201 has achieved TSA qualification for use at US passenger checkpoints and is certified to the highest standards of both the TSA and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). According to the company, more than 2,000 systems are already deployed in airports worldwide.

AOT highlighted the scanner’s performance and accuracy, noting faster security clearance and an improved passenger experience alongside enhanced screening.
