Rohde & Schwarz Partners With University Of Granada

Rohde & Schwarz is supplying advanced test equipment and ongoing expertise to the University of Granada's Smart Wireless Technologies Lab (SWTL), a unique Spanish facility dedicated to prototyping and validating next‑generation wireless technologies across 5G Advanced and 6G.

The University of Granada has inaugurated the SWTL, a state‑of‑the‑art lab focused on pushing the boundaries of wireless communications research. Built on a long‑running collaboration, Rohde & Schwarz has provided much of the instrumentation and will continue to support the programme with technical know‑how, creating an environment geared to rapid prototyping, rigorous validation and scaling of future network technologies.

Research at the SWTL spans 6G waveform generation and analysis, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), advanced modulation, radar cross section (RCS) measurements, material characterisation, 6G channel sounding and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing. With its combined emphasis on 5G Advanced and 6G, the lab is described as unique in Spain.

Key Rohde & Schwarz platforms installed include the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator for complex 6G waveforms, FSW signal and spectrum analyzers for advanced analysis of 6G propagation, the R&S ZNA67 network analyzer for material characterisation and the R&S ATS1800C compact over‑the‑air (OTA) chamber for antenna measurements up to 90 GHz. Together, these systems deliver the wide bandwidths, precision and advanced modulation capabilities required to evaluate next‑generation wireless designs.

For the University of Granada, access to this world‑class testbed is expected to help attract top talent, speed up innovation and deepen collaboration with industry partners.
