Net Insight Introduces Nimbra 1020G
Net Insight has announced the Nimbra 1020G, a compact addition to its Nimbra Live portfolio designed to combine IP media processing, switching and controlled interconnection in a modular 1U platform.
The new system is aimed at broadcasters, production companies and media service providers looking to scale live IP media workflows across facilities and production environments without significantly increasing infrastructure requirements.
Nimbra 1020G combines open standards and APIs with Net Insight’s Trust Boundary technology, allowing organisations to extend broadcast IP networks while maintaining control over their existing infrastructure.
As live production becomes increasingly distributed across venues, partners, facilities and cloud environments, Net Insight said there is a growing need to extend IP workflows beyond the media core without replicating the footprint, power requirements and costs associated with core-scale infrastructure.
"The value of Trust Boundary is that organizations can exchange live media without sharing network design, investing in complex integrations or adding conversion," said Larissa Görner-Meeus, CPO of Net Insight. "With Nimbra 1020G, that controlled handoff can now be placed wherever services enter or leave the network."
The Nimbra 1020G supports up to 64 channels of 2110 JPEG XS compression and 600 Gbps of lossless Ethernet switching. Net Insight said the resulting increase in service density can reduce rack space, power consumption, external switching requirements and the cost per live service.
Built around the company's Nimbra Media Pro App architecture, the platform is designed to support a range of applications, including contribution, remote production, facility connectivity, partner interconnection and distribution access.
A central feature of the new platform is its always-enabled SMPTE RP 2129 Trust Boundary, which provides a controlled demarcation between independently operated media networks. The technology allows organisations to exchange live media services while retaining control of their own addressing, multicast architecture, security policies and orchestration.
Net Insight said the Trust Boundary preserves the full media payload and timing through each boundary to support service resilience and interoperability.
The system provides demarcation from 1G to 100G Ethernet, combining per-service admission, address adaptation, QoS control and real-time flow monitoring. A single application can manage media flows ranging from compressed transport streams through to uncompressed 2110 UHD essences.
Up to 128 lossless Ethernet switch instances provide QoS, traffic isolation and workflow aggregation for broadcaster and service-provider applications.
Net Insight's Nimbra Live Intelligence adds service-level visibility, control and assurance, providing operators with real-time information as live services are added, rerouted or modified. The company said this enables more dynamic, software-driven operations while maintaining operational control.
For existing Nimbra customers, compatibility with Nimbra 1000 modular hardware and the Nimbra Media Pro App family provides an expansion path that allows new capabilities to be added to existing infrastructure rather than requiring a separate platform.
The Nimbra 1020G adds another scale point to the Nimbra Live portfolio, sitting alongside the Nimbra 520 for HEVC contribution and Nimbra 1060 for high-capacity media processing. Together with Nimbra Edge and Nimbra Live Intelligence, the company said the products extend its Open Live Media architecture across contribution, access, aggregation, controlled interconnection, core and distribution.
Net Insight will demonstrate the Nimbra 1020G and its Open Live Media architecture at IBC2026, taking place September 11-14 at RAI Amsterdam, on Booth 1.B47.
