Cinegy To Highlight Linux-Based Playout Efficiency and Software-Defined Workflows

Cinegy GmbH will use IBC2026 to demonstrate how its software-defined television technology is addressing rising hardware costs, cloud migration and the demand for more scalable media workflows.

The company will exhibit at stand 7.A01 at Amsterdam RAI from September 11 to 14, with a particular focus on Cinegy Air and its ability to run core back-end functionality in a Docker environment on Linux.

Cinegy said the Linux-based implementation can significantly reduce hardware requirements compared with an equivalent Windows deployment, requiring a smaller processor footprint and between one-quarter and one-eighth of the RAM. The company argues that the approach can help broadcasters extract more capacity from existing infrastructure while also reducing the cost of cloud migrations.

"We see newcomers to the server and playout market claiming that ‘breaking the one channel to one server’ concept is novel," said Jan Weigner, CTO and founder of Cinegy. "We have been using virtualization and other methods to pack many more channels into small footprints for over 15 years. What we will showcase at IBC this year is how users are now free to switch to Linux backend-based operations to get the absolute maximum performance, without the operators even noticing that anything has changed. Of course, Docker-based channel deployment brings many other advantages as well: instant scalability, fast migration and total channel templatization."

Cinegy said its software-defined architecture is designed to address the scalability challenges associated with broadcast and cloud deployments. Its Linux-based engine uses sandboxed Docker deployment to provide resilience while allowing users to create fully configured software instances, including complete broadcast channels, in seconds.

The company will also showcase Cinegy Desktop, its cross-platform real-time production system for local and cloud-based workflows. The platform is designed for sports, news, reality television and other applications requiring rapid turnaround, and connects to Cinegy's local or cloud-based Media Asset Management system.

Cinegy Desktop provides access to live camera and video feeds while they are being recorded or uploaded. The company says its zero-trust, zero-install client architecture enables secure access over internet connections without requiring administrators to install software or manage individual devices.

Cinegy will also use IBC2026 to highlight its broader approach to software-defined media as the company approaches its 25th anniversary.

The Cinegy stand will feature the Cinegy Studio presentation area, where the company plans to host presentations and debates throughout the show focused on software architectures, deployment strategies and experiences from the media industry.
