PROTON To Debut Image-Stabilised Camera

News Image
PROTON Camera Innovations GmbH will introduce the PROTON IS at IBC2026 (Booth 10.F21), adding full image stabilisation to its range of miniature broadcast cameras.

The PROTON IS is designed for body-worn and other compact camera applications where conventional stabilisation systems are impractical. The company says the camera is intended to deliver steady, professional-grade images from moving subjects while retaining the immediacy of live-action footage.

The camera uses a two-part architecture that separates its imaging head from the processing and power unit. Measuring 20 x 20 x 22.5mm and consuming 0.5W, the imaging head connects to a 23 x 23 x 70mm processor and power supply that consumes 2.3W and uses passive cooling. Up to 90cm of flexible cabling can separate the two components.

The split design allows the processing hardware to be positioned away from the imaging head, helping distribute weight in body-mounted applications and moving heat dissipation away from the subject. PROTON says this makes the camera particularly suited to applications such as referees and players, where stabilisation can counteract the movement caused by mounting a fixed camera to a person.

The PROTON IS captures 1080p60 video in 10-bit quality and incorporates PROTON's VEGA broadcast-grade shading system for colour accuracy and dynamic range. An integrated stereo microphone provides embedded audio, while total power consumption is rated at 2.8W across a 4.7-24V operating range.

The camera can be integrated into SDI transmitter systems and supports remote control via RS485. PROTON says its compact design enables deployment across a range of applications, including body-worn cameras, vehicle mounts, drone undercarriages and helmet rigs.

The company is positioning the camera for live sports, where stabilisation is intended to reduce unwanted movement without removing the sense of speed and physicality from the resulting images.

The PROTON IS joins PROTON's existing range of miniature broadcast cameras, which includes the PROTON CAM, PROTON 4K, PROTON Zoom, PROTON Flex, PROTON Rain, PROTON Pro and PROTON LS. The models offer different combinations of size, resolution, lens flexibility, weather protection, connectivity and mounting options.

PROTON also says future development will combine the PROTON IS with technology from its PROTON FLEXY camera, which is being introduced at IBC2026. The FLEXY uses serialisation and SMA connectors to extend the connection between camera components over significantly longer distances while simplifying component maintenance and replacement.

Speaking of the upcoming new releases for IBC, Marko Hoepken - CEO and founder of PROTON Camera Innovations - said: "With the addition of the PROTON IS, production teams now have access to full image stabilisation in a form factor that conventional stabilisation systems - gimbals, gyros, mechanical dampers - simply cannot achieve. The only limitation is their creativity."
