Chroma Adds Rohde & Schwarz MXO Oscilloscopes To ATS 8000

News Image
Chroma has added support for the Rohde & Schwarz MXO Series oscilloscopes to its Power Conversion Device Automated Test System Model 8000 (ATS 8000), extending the platform for demanding power electronics verification.

The move targets increasingly complex, high‑power and high‑channel‑count applications such as those used in AI data centre infrastructure, allowing engineers to leverage next‑generation MXO instruments for real-time waveform acquisition within automated flows.

Rising AI infrastructure deployments are accelerating power demand across data centres and related ecosystems. In response, power supply manufacturers are delivering higher‑power, higher‑density solutions, including designs aligned to modern HVDC (high-voltage direct current) architectures. Development teams rely on automated environments like Chroma's ATS 8000 for tasks including waveform capture, debugging and calibration throughout the power system design cycle.

The ATS 8000 is purpose‑built for automated testing of power conversion devices and power supplies. Chroma's latest update adds the Rohde & Schwarz MXO Series as an optional hardware element within the platform. In automated power test scenarios, oscilloscopes are vital for observing transient events and dynamic signal behaviour in real time.

Powered by the Rohde & Schwarz MXO‑EP processing ASIC, the MXO Series delivers capture rates up to 4.5 million acquisitions per second, helping to minimise measurement blind spots and provide a more faithful real‑time view of signals. Advanced digital triggering, adjustable sensitivity and very low trigger jitter enable detection of subtle anomalies with pixel‑level trigger precision. In HD mode, the instruments offer up to 18‑bit vertical resolution and input sensitivity down to 0.5 mV/div.

Meeting the channel demands of dense AI power delivery, a single rack may include numerous power modules plus battery backup units (BBU) and capacitor backup units (CBU) in series or parallel, often pushing beyond eight measurement channels. MXO models are available with up to eight channels and can be synchronised across multiple instruments using the Rohde & Schwarz ScopeSync architecture, enabling primary–secondary configurations with up to 24 aligned channels. This supports efficient debugging and helps correlate manual checks with automated test outcomes.

Chroma's PowerPro 5 control software allows engineers to tailor test sequences to specific use cases and to run external programmes written in C# or Python within the test flow. This supports bespoke analysis such as decoding serial control frames and applying product‑specific calibration routines, addressing flexibility needs both in the lab and on production lines.
