Rohde & Schwarz will showcase new submarine communications technology designed to deliver continuous, low‑latency and secure links, turning raw sensor data into real‑time intelligence to support modern naval operations.

The company will brief integrators and end users at the Underwater Defence Technology (UDT) Conference in London from 14–16 April 2026. Aligning with the 2026 theme, 'Prepare Today for the Maritime Threats of Tomorrow', attendees can see demonstrations of an end‑to‑end architecture spanning waveform generation to AI‑driven data orchestration. The solutions are engineered to fit a broad spectrum of platforms, from legacy diesel‑electric submarines to next‑generation air‑independent propulsion (AIP) vessels.

Addressing the historic constraints of undersea communications — narrow bandwidth, high latency and environmental vulnerability — the newly introduced waveform family is built on a flexible, software‑defined core. It provides high‑throughput, secure connectivity that continues to function in demanding conditions while offering low probability of detection and low probability of interception.

The approach is designed for interoperability across fleet assets, shore‑based command centres, allied platforms and uncrewed underwater vehicles, helping commanders maintain a live, shared picture of the battlespace.

To keep pace with evolving undersea threats, the architecture is fully modular and software‑defined, enabling over‑the‑air updates to add new waveforms, encryption and analytics. This scalability supports rapid integration of emerging capabilities such as quantum‑secure links and next‑generation low‑frequency acoustic modems.
