Macnica Unveils Enhanced SmartNIC At NAB Show 2026
Macnica has announced new capabilities for its MEP100 SmartNIC, set to be showcased at NAB Show 2026, including support for both 100GbE and 25GbE media flows on a single card.
The latest upgrades also introduce expanded compatibility with GPU-based processing, Windows applications and real-time metadata, offering broadcasters and developers greater flexibility in scaling SMPTE ST 2110 IP workflows.
The dual-speed functionality allows users to tailor network bandwidth to specific application needs while maintaining a consistent hardware platform. At lower speeds, the system supports workflows such as graphics generation and video playout, while higher speeds enable uncompressed, high-density production environments.
"Never before has this kind of flexibility been offered in a SmartNIC," said Andrew Starks, Director of Product Marketing at Macnica. "Our customers are not locked into a single network speed, and we are continuing to expand the platform to better support GPU processing, software-based production tools and emerging workflow requirements."
Additional enhancements include support for GPUDirect, enabling faster transfer of media streams into GPU memory, and new DirectShow filter integration for Windows-based tools such as vMix. The platform also introduces SMPTE ST 2110-41 Fast Metadata, allowing synchronised metadata transport alongside audio and video streams.
"These additions are part of a continued effort to make ST 2110 workflows more accessible to software-based production and processing environments," Starks added. "It's about giving developers and end users practical ways to build and scale systems using familiar tools and modern compute platforms."
Built on an FPGA-based architecture, the MEP100 supports real-time processing features including seamless protection switching, precision timing and efficient data transfer, aimed at reducing CPU load while maintaining performance.
Macnica said the enhanced system will also support emerging workflows, including those using Apple ProRes 422, helping to bridge the gap between post-production tools and live IP broadcast environments.
