MotionFX invests in a JVC DLA-HD2K projector for digital intermediate

MotionFX, specialists in digital cinematography, VFX, 2D & 3D animation, graphics and motion control are now the proud owners of a JVC DLA-HD2K.
The HD2K was bought in early April and installed at the MotionFX premises in West London. The suite is currently being used for 8 - 12 hours each day for ongoing digital intermediate project work. The most recent project being worked on is ‘Silence Becomes You’, a psychological thriller, produced by Dragonfly Films in collaboration with MotionFX and Digital Praxis directed by Stephanie Sinclair, starring Alicia Silverstone and Sienna Guillory.
A Quantel iQ digital intermediate system with the QColour in-context grading system and running the Kodak KDM (Kodak Display Manager) look up-tables, with the results output through a Doremi HDVI-20 HD/DVI converter, feeds full resolution 2K images into the projector.
Clive Ogden, UK Technical Manager, Entertainment and Imaging at Kodak, said: “We supply the motion and digital film industries with a colour management system and a proprietary look-up table that is imported into the Quantel iQ. This system, incorporating the JVC HD2K, accurately emulates what the final film print image will look like.”
Mark Horton, Quantel Marketing Manager, added: “The power of the iQ enables it to run the Kodak KDM at full resolution in realtime, so colour-accurate results can be reviewed on screen via the HD2K and refined interactively with total confidence,” comments.
The HD2K produces natural but deeply rich colours with a high definition resolution of 1920 x 1080i at 60Hz. The projector has an impressive contrast ratio of 2000:1 which allows for real cinema-quality blacks with smooth gradations and low noise.
