Focus rests on Digital Intermediate process at The Broadcast Production Show

Focus rests on Digital intermediate process at The Broadcast Production Show
The focus at this year's Broadcast Production Show will rest on the crucial importance of the Digital Intermediate process and its core technologies to an increasing number of productions.
Alongside various DI technology companies exhibiting the latest developments in the rapidly evolving field at the show from June 1 to June 3, workshop sessions in the Engineering Technology Centre and the Camera Skills and Craft Area will also look at this area. These include:
  • Digital Intermediate 101 – DI is the peg on which a lot of post-production fortunes are hanging on in 2005 and this session aims to demystifies the process, analyse what it is capable of and highlight some of the kit for visitors to the show to look out for on the exhibition floor;
  • DI in Action – A pair of studies that showcase what facilities have been able to do using DI on recent, high-profile releases. The practical session will be pitched at producers;
  • Working With DI – Around three-quarters of all Hollywood releases will be going down the DI route by the end of the year as the technology becomes firmly embedded in the mainstream. This session aims to provide the knowledge necessary to help get the most out of the experience. A DoP, a colourist and a manufacturer will look at the present and the future of DI.
The workshops at the show are free to attend on the day, but subject to availability places at the sessions may be reserved for £15. Priority will be given to paying delegates- pre-book via the website.
Amongst the many companies exhibiting at the show are also some of the world’s leading suppliers of DI-related equipment:
  • Assimilate (E39) debuting SCRATCH, its powerhouse data-centric workflow system with the latest product developments in selective colour grading, network collaboration and increased support for third-party colour control panels, colour management systems, and additional plug-ins from world-leading developers;
  • DVS (D36) – will be showing for the first time in the UK version 2.0 of the Clipster conforming and finishing system and the premium DI storage DVS-SAN; FilmLight (D36) – will show the NAB launched Baselight v2.2. nonlinear colour grading system that brings colourists a host of new creative tools for film and video grading and introduces support for the optional FilmLight-developed Blackboard surface control device previewed at NAB;
  • Quantel (D20) – showing eQ as used for the DI on Sin City;
  • Root6 (D36) - root6 will present the latest advances in Digital Intermediate workflow with a series of technology demonstrations on the stand highlighting key components from DVS, MTI, FilmLight and ROOT6 Technology.
