STV Radio And Children's Appeal Bring Pop Concert To Gourock School

Pupils at the coastal town's St Ninian's Primary were treated to a pop concert after the school's Big Scottish Breakfast event earned them a place in – and victory in – a prize draw organised by national commercial station STV Radio and the STV Children's Appeal.

Two of Scotland's fast‑rising artists, Ben Walker and Kevin McGuire, performed for the school's 350 pupils, with McGuire joined by a team of line dancers to lead a choreographed routine that got the whole hall moving.

STV Radio presenters Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey fronted the show, following the winning school announcement on their breakfast programme, Ewen and Cat at Breakfast, last week. The pair also ran lively games that had the crowd – and the hosts – in fits of laughter.

Ewen and Cat said: "When the STV Children's Appeal asked us to organise a concert for 350 kids, we knew just the lads to bring with us! The young team absolutely love Ben and Kevin, and we’re so grateful to them for helping us make today’s event so special. All of us at STV Radio are proud supporters of the STV Children’s Appeal and it makes our jobs just that little bit sweeter when we get to help make a difference to children’s lives.

Ben Walker said: "I had an absolute ball at the school – massive thanks to everyone for having me! No child should have to start their day hungry and being able to use music to do a wee bit of good means a lot to me. I'm proud to support the STV Children's Appeal's Big Scottish Breakfast and help families here in Scotland."

Kevin McGuire said: "I felt honoured to be there for such an amazing cause. On a personal note – as a country artist – seeing so many kids here in Scotland getting involved in line dancing was such a brilliant feeling. I've always said it has the power to bring people together and that's what we've done today."

The STV Children's Appeal's Big Scottish Breakfast campaign, in partnership with Kellogg’s, encourages people to come together with friends, family, colleagues or classmates to share breakfast and raise funds. Kellogg's matches every £1 raised up to £50,000, with all money supporting school breakfast clubs across Scotland and helping to tackle child hunger.
