BBC Launches STV Studios True Crime Series The Beauty Queen And The Catfish

A major new three-part true crime documentary from STV Studios Factual has launched on BBC iPlayer.

The Beauty Queen and the Catfish introduces viewers to Dr David Graham, billed as Kilmarnock’s most eligible bachelor and looking for love online. After the town's former beauty queen, Abbie Draper, starts receiving messages from him following treatment for her grandad in hospital, she suspects he may be too good to be true.

Turning online sleuth, Abbie uncovers a web of deception, wild coincidences and stories that don't stack up. Convinced something more sinister is going on than a simple bad boyfriend, she tries to discover who David Graham really is and why he is doing this.

A BBC Documentaries co-commission for BBC Three, BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer, The Beauty Queen and the Catfish tells the story of one of Britain’s most prolific cyberstalkers, featuring jaw-dropping testimony from several victims who piece together the truth of this twisting tale for the first time.

Filmed and produced in Kilmarnock and Glasgow by STV Studios Factual (Disease X: Hunting the Next Pandemic), the series is executive produced by Craig Hunter and Wendie Ottewill. Alana McVerry is Series Director and Claire Kunzel is Series Producer. The BBC commissioners are Tom Pullen (Commissioning Editor, BBC Documentaries) and David Harron (Commissioning Editor – Factual, BBC Scotland).
