Veteran STV News Anchor Norman MacLeod To Sign Off

News Image
Norman MacLeod will present his last STV News at Six on Friday 10 July, bringing to a close almost 40 years of broadcasting to viewers across the north of Scotland.

MacLeod joined Grampian Television in the 1980s as a trainee journalist and has been a senior presenter for more than two decades. Among a vast range of stories, he reported on the Piper Alpha disaster and marked its 30th anniversary with a special programme from the Memorial Rose Garden in Aberdeen. He also covered the 2005 storms in South Uist and, more recently, anchored a live broadcast from the Tall Ships Race at Aberdeen Harbour.

His career has featured distinctive moments too, from sampling traditional whale meat in the Faroe Islands alongside the men’s national football team to interviewing entertainers including Margarita Pracatan and Barry Manilow.

A Gaelic speaker from Scalpay, Harris in the Outer Hebrides, MacLeod has reported across Europe and has also presented for ITN in London, Channel 4 and the History Channel.

He said: "It's been a privilege to bring the news to viewers across the north of Scotland for almost 40 years. I’ve had an incredible career at STV, working alongside some truly wonderful colleagues who have made it so special. I’ll miss the team enormously, but the time feels right to embark on a new adventure. As a presenter, you are welcomed into people’s homes each evening, and earning their trust is a responsibility I have never taken lightly. It’s been an honour to serve our audience in this way for the past four decades."
