Nevion Announces General Availability Of MOXELA Media Processing Platform

News Image
Nevion, a Sony Group Company, has announced the general availability of MOXELA, its next-generation software-based media processing platform, alongside the launch of the first applications developed on the platform.

Positioned as a key component of Sony's Networked Live ecosystem, MOXELA is designed to help broadcasters, production companies and media organisations transport, process and monitor live video, audio and data using software running on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers or in the cloud.

The first MOXELA applications target two live production use cases: contribution over unmanaged networks and ground-to-cloud (GCCG) transport. Nevion has also announced initial support for software-defined broadcasting (SDB) workflows, allowing media organisations to develop more agile, scalable and infrastructure-independent live production environments.

The applications use media functions developed on the MOXELA platform, including video and audio compression technologies such as H.265/HEVC, H.264/AVC, NDI and AAC. The platform also supports logo insertion and audio matrix routing, including embedding, de-embedding and shuffle.

These media functions can be deployed either in the cloud or on-premises using COTS servers, allowing customers to select an infrastructure model based on their operational and commercial requirements.

MOXELA incorporates technologies, standards and industry practices for software-based media processing. The platform is aligned with the EBU Dynamic Media Facilities (DMF) concept and supports Media eXchange Layer (MXL), an emerging standard for the real-time exchange of media between software applications.

Nevion demonstrated MOXELA's interoperability with other MXL-compliant software at NAB Show 2026 on the AWS booth, highlighting the platform's open and standards-based approach to multi-vendor software-defined production.

The platform is also natively integrated with Nevion’s VideoIPath media orchestration platform. The integration is designed to simplify the control, orchestration, virtualisation and monitoring of workflows across hybrid ground-and-cloud operations, spanning both software and hardware resources.

According to Nevion, the integration can help customers manage hybrid production environments more efficiently while reducing deployment complexity, risk and dependence on a specific vendor.

The launch marks the beginning of Nevion's MOXELA roadmap, with additional applications and media functions planned for release.

MOXELA will be demonstrated on the Sony booth, 13.A10, at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam from 11–14 September. The platform will also feature in MXL interoperability demonstrations on the AWS booth, 5.C90.
