Gravity Media Extends Stawell Gift Broadcast Deal To 2031

Gravity Media has renewed its multi-year partnership with Stawell Gift Event Management to deliver the complete broadcast production of the Powercor Stawell Gift through to 2031.

Recognised by World Athletics as Australia's oldest and richest professional footrace, the Powercor Stawell Gift regularly attracts audiences exceeding one million viewers and has captivated athletes and fans since its first running in 1878.

The extension deepens Gravity Media's role with the historic race, building on nine years of collaboration to provide coverage across all screens.

At this year's Easter Weekend meeting, Gravity Media worked alongside Stawell Gift Event Management to produce the broadcast, with the flagship 120-metre handicap sprint on the Seven Network, additional race days on 7plus and highlights on Fox Sports. The operation deployed high-definition outside broadcast and production trucks, SNG delivery, cellular and cloud-based workflows, and 16 cameras offering distinctive angles — including a drone, super slo-mo and a Gravity Media-designed specialty Refcam headset worn by the official firing the starter's gun.

Seven's coverage from Victoria's Northern Grampians saw Olympic gold medallist Sha'Carri Richardson claim the title with a thrilling charge through the field. The programme was hosted by Jason Richardson, with broadcasting great Bruce McAvaney leading commentary alongside expert analysis from Olympian Tamsyn Lewis and 2025 Stawell Gift winner Bree Rizzo.

The 2026 edition underlined Gravity Media's ability to deliver complex, large-scale athletics broadcasts, combining technical expertise with deep knowledge of the sport. Working closely with partners, the company says it will continue to innovate and operate at the scale expected of world-class athletics coverage.

Murray Emerson, Chair at Stawell Gift Event Management, said:
"The Powercor Stawell Gift continues to evolve while honouring its rich history, and Gravity Media has been an important part of that journey. We are thrilled to renew our partnership and look forward to delivering an outstanding broadcast experience for athletes, spectators and viewers alike."

Mike Purcell, Head of Production at Gravity Media in Australia, said:
"Gravity Media takes great pride in continuing our longstanding relationship with the Powercor Stawell Gift showcasing the event's treasured heritage and empowering narratives in collaboration with the Stawell Gift Event Management"

"As athletics continues to surge in popularity across Australia, this renewed partnership reflects confidence in our proven ability to deliver world-class broadcast production consistently over the next five years."

The announcement has also been reported by trade outlets including Mumbrella and TV Blackbox.
