Fujinon’s cine zoom lenses chosen for ‘Star Wars: Episode III’

Fujinon’s new Cine Super E series zoom lenses have been chosen for ‘Star Wars: Episode III’, currently being shot in Sydney.
The HAe3x5 and HAe10x10 will be used for all principal and effects photography. The choice of these lenses by Lucasfilm follows the success of Fujinon’s Cine Super C series HA10x5 zoom in the production of ‘Star Wars: Episode II’.
Fujinon Super Cine lenses are designed for HD digital video cameras and provide precise, aberration-free images for a variety of motion picture applications. They meet all movie-making optical requirements, including reduced ‘breathing’, or fluctuations in angular field of view during focusing. The lenses have large 11 blade iris apertures, providing excellent resolution of out of focus images and constant T number performance throughout the zoom range and across the screen. They feature coloured scales for the focus, zoom and iris settings, etched on both sides of the barrel for easy reading. The focus ring has 280 degree rotation and is calibrated in feet or metres.
Fujinon’s DCS-1 (Digital Cinema System), which has accessories not previously available for HD production, is also to be used in the making of Star Wars: Episode III. The system features a servo drive and feedback of all lens functions, which can be recorded on a PC for later use on GCI and postproduction.
