The IABM Training Academy Adds 'Technology Product Finance' To Curriculum

The IABM (International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers) Training Academy today announced the launch of a new course, "Technology Product Finance — Making Decisions That Add Value." The two-day course, designed specifically for broadcasting technology professionals, will run for the first time July 11-12 in Reading, U.K.
"In today's competitive environment, broadcast manufacturing companies can no longer rely solely on outstanding design innovation to make their products and services successful. Engineers and project managers need to become knowledgeable on issues such as changing timescales, the increased cost of components, ensuring project budgets are met, and building in company profitability from a project's inception," said IABM Director General Peter White. "With this course, students will gain a greater awareness of financial and commercial issues that can help drive profitability along with product innovation."
"Technology Product Finance — Making Decisions That Add Value" introduces fundamentally important finance considerations to broadcast technology personnel who might not otherwise understand their own potential impact on company profitability. Such personnel include marketing, HR, and sales professionals; project managers; engineers; and CEOs. The course tackles underlying product and service economics with an emphasis on product lifecycle costs, including costs of development, deployment, and maintenance. Students will gain an understanding of where cost decisions occur and where and how they impact the salability and profitability of the product or service. Covered topics include: the broadcast supply chain, fundamentals of business finance, measuring company performance, management accounting and decision-making, inventory management, investment appraisal and project management, budgeting and variance analysis, and the customer interface.
Registration, as well as additional information about the IABM Training Academy and its range of classroom and online courses, is available at www.iabmacademy.org.
