Hamlet DigiScope Boosts Creative Arts University

To help students understand the parameters of video and sound the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has installed two Hamlet DS9000 DigiScope units at its campus in Farnham, south-west of London.
The DigiScopes are primarily used in the campus's two fully-featured Avid edit suites.
UCA offers degree courses on television and film production, and it is obviously vital that its students have access to professional facilities.
The Farnham campus includes a post production centre closely modelled on those found in the industry, including offline and online editing, grading and effects.
"We have two high-end finishing suits using Avid Symphony with Nitris, and for these facilities to be used at their full potential it is essential that accurate measurement of sound and picture can be performed," explained Mark Lelliott, Moving Image Post Production Technician at UCA and a former editor at BBC television.
"A lot of grading and special effects are often added at the online stage, and it is while doing this work that pictures and sound can become illegal," Lelliott explained.
"The Hamlet DS9000s give us the ability we need to accurately measure and monitor."
The Hamlet DS9000 DigiScope is a high precision test and measurement instrument, based on Hamlet’s modular digital platform.
That gives it the flexibility to work at multiple resolutions, outputting its test displays to any convenient video or computer monitor. Because it generates its scales and graticules at the same point as the waveforms, it retains perfect and reliable accuracy on any display.
Steve Nunney, Director of Hamlet, added: "We have enjoyed working with UCA, helping them with loan kit so they could assess how best it would fit into their educational environment. The fact that Hamlet can deliver accuracy and reliability at a better price point than anyone else also helped with their budget, too.
"Ultimately, the leading creative and engineering talent of tomorrow needs to cut its teeth with equipment that most closely resembles the way that professionals work," Mr Nunney said, adding, "UCA offers excellent teaching facilities and, thanks to Hamlet, students can be confident that they are achieving the best possible technical quality."
