Services Sound and Vision Corporation sets course for quality with Hamlet

As part of a project to launch a new television service for the Royal Navy, the transmission division of Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC), has turned to Hamlet for quality control of the British Forces Broadcasting Service’s unique blend of the best of British television programming.
The British specialist test and measurement manufacturer has supplied an LCD Scope 400WVA which provides both audio and video monitoring in the new master control suite.
The new service, which went on air at the beginning of 2004, provides a mix of general programming from BFBS and news from BBC and Sky. Playout is highly automated and delivery is in the form of high resolution streamed Real Media to meet the bandwidth limitations of the satellites used to reach warships at sea.
Hamlet’s LCD Scope provides comprehensive quality control in a compact form, occupying the familiar half-rack width of conventional vectorscopes, but very little depth because of its use of a high-resolution LCD display. It also offers a video output so that the display can be routed as needed.
SSVC also took advantage of Hamlet’s bespoke service, adding additional audio functionality to the LCD Scope to meet their specific needs. David Hargreaves of SSVC explained: “We worked with Hamlet to get it to do exactly what we needed and now the LCD Scope provides the functionality we need for the new service.”
Formally established in 1986, Hamlet Video International Limited manufactures a complete range of waveform/vectorscopes, including rack mount, stand alone, PCB and portable units for studio, EFP/ENG, editing, telecine, duplication, desk top video applications and more.
