Nominations Open For The UK Screen Sound Awards 2009 - 'The Conch'

The UK Screen Sound Awards 2009, 'The Conch', has announced that nominations for this year's prestigious awards, to be presented at a gala ceremony in London on September 22, are now open.
In addition, UK Screen has announced a new award for the 2009 event - Best Foley Project. This award will be given to a team of people that produced an outstanding piece of foley in either a film, tv or commercial.
Nomination is a simple process and is open from now until june 12 2009. The industry is invited to use the simple online forms found on the Nominate section of The Conch website: www.ukscreenassociation.co.uk/conch and to nominate their own work, person or facility that they think best reflects the cream of today's UK audio talent.
Anyone who has worked on a project, anyone who works in a facility or studio that has worked on a project (or would like to submit a colleague or their own facility), and production companies that are related to a project (or who would like to nominate a person or facility they have worked with) can nominate. Up to five nominations can be made in each category and after a checking period these will go into onto the voting stage. All nominations must relate to work screened or broadcast (or would like to submit a colleague or their own facility), and production companies that are related to a project (or who would like to nominate a person or facility they have worked with) can nominate.

The categories open for nominations is as follows:
  • Commercial of the Year - The winner of this award will have shown creativity and technical use of sound in a TV or cinema commercial. This category is restricted to audio-visual commercials and excludes radio commercials
  • Dubbing Mixer of the Year
  • Film Re-recording Mixer of the Year
  • Film Facility of the Year
  • Commercial Facility of the Year
  • TV Facility of the Year
  • Audio on TV Entertainment - The winner of this award will have shown audio excellence in a British or International TV entertainment programme where the audio post-production has (in full or part) been carried out in the UK
  • Best Foley Project (Film, TV or Commercial)
  • Film Soundtrack of the Year - under £10 million
  • Film Soundtrack of the Year - over £10 million
  • Audio on TV/Film Documentary
  • UK's Most Promising Newcomer - This award recognises the most promising new British talent in the audio post-production industry in any field. This person must have been involved in the creative side of the industry for less than three years. This award will be determined by the audio committee
  • Audio on TV Drama - The winner of this award will be a programme that has shown audio excellence in TV drama. This category is open to both British and international TV drama providing that the audio post-production has (in full or part) been carried out in the UK
  • Production Sound Mixer of the Year - This award is given to the person, based in the UK (UK Resident) that recognises his/her excellence in their field. The judging panel will take into consideration challenges faced during production (such as locations), quality of work produced and the application of new technologies
  • Film Sound Editor of the Year (editor, designer, dialogue, supervising) - This award is given to a person based in the UK (ie: UK resident) that recognises his/her excellence in the field of film. The judging panel will take into consideration a number of factors such as: career and quality of work, contribution to the craft and audio profession. (The following professions within the film industry can apply: editor, designer, dialogue editor, supervising sound editor)
  • TV Sound Editor of the Year (editor, designer, dialogue, supervising) - As above, but relating to the TV industry
The aim of The Conch is to capitalise on the UK's strong reputation for audio craft by recognising, rewarding and honouring individuals and companies for outstanding achievement in audio post-production. With a high-profile judging panel including previous year's winners and a stringent judging process, the integrity of the awards and therefore its winners is paramount.
