BRADFORD 'BITE THE MANGO' FILM FESTIVAL

THE NATIONAL Museum of Photography, Film and Television (NMPFT) in Bradford will be hosting this year’s Bite The Mango Film Festival, the UK’s leading annual celebration of Asian and Black cinema.
The highlight of the Festival this year is an eight-feature tribute to the acclaimed Indian star Om Puri, who will attend the Festival on its opening night gala for the first UK screening of his latest picture ‘Bollywood Calling’.
Packages of short films from the best of British filmmakers will also be presented in a showcase of new British shorts. The Festival's Best of British Awards will be announced on Friday September 29.
There is also a focus on the work of ‘Bollywood Princess’ Karisma Kapoor, with three of her most successful films.
New features to be premiered or previewed in Bradford include ‘Jinnah’ the controversial but acclaimed epic on the founding of modern Pakistan and ‘Nutty Professor 2’. The focus on films of director John Singleton brings the previously unreleased in the UK, 1923 Florida drama ‘Rosewood’ to screen and provides an opportunity to contrast his new version of ‘Shaft’ with the 1971 original.
Special themes include an overview of new Far Eastern film plus Hong Kong Heroes.
The closing gala on Friday September 29 premieres the new British comedy-thriller ‘It Was An Accident’ and on the same evening the Festival will host the very first Bollywood Drive-in Screening in Bradford.
The Festival will run for a week from September 21 to 29. For further details on the festival contact NMPFT on Tel: 01274 203317.
