Alessia Cup Returns With Alessia Russo

News Image
The Alessia Cup, powered by Sky, returned for a second year, bringing together girls from 18 schools in underserved parts of London for a day of football, confidence-building and opportunities on and off the pitch.

After last year’s inaugural tournament and the 2025 launch of The Alessia Russo Foundation, Lioness and Arsenal forward Alessia Russo was back to inspire young players as teams from across the capital competed. Highgate Wood School lifted the trophy, collecting prizes including England match tickets and adidas boots.

Away from the matches, participants explored broadcasting via Sky Up E-vehicles, using green‑screen technology to create content and grow digital skills. Workshops ranged from careers guidance with Driven By Us and women’s health support from Plan International to dance sessions and T‑shirt printing, plus the chance to trial adidas football boots.

The event, delivered by Company A Works, closed with an on‑stage Q&A featuring Alessia and Sky Sports reporter Uma Gurav, giving the girls the chance to hear her experiences and put their questions to her.

Alessia Russo said: "It's been amazing to work with Sky again to bring The Alessia Cup back for another year. It means so much to me to see so many young girls enjoying football, building their confidence and having fun together. I’m really proud to help break down barriers and create more opportunities for girls in sport, and I hope today inspires them to keep believing in themselves, both on and off the pitch."
