Cablenet Taps Harmonic's cOS

News Image
Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) announced that Cablenet Communication Systems plc, Cyprus's second-largest fixed network provider and a leading converged fixed-mobile operator, has selected Harmonic’s market-leading cOS virtualised broadband platform to modernise its DOCSIS access network. The deployment is designed to strengthen Cablenet's gigabit service capabilities, simplify network operations and enhance subscribers’ quality of experience.

"The real measure of network modernization is the difference it makes for our customers," said Panayiotis Kouloumbrides, Chief Core Networks Officer at Cablenet. "Harmonic's cOS platform strengthens our DOCSIS 3.1+ network footprint, giving our customers fast, consistent gigabit broadband they can count on today, tomorrow and always, with a clear path to even higher speeds. We believe that broadband should simply work for our customers, every time."

Cablenet is introducing Harmonic's cOS in a distributed access architecture using low-power Oyster nodes, enabling significantly higher speeds across its footprint and efficient scaling as subscriber needs evolve. The software-based platform also preserves flexibility for Cablenet's longer-term multi-technology strategy across DOCSIS and fibre.

As part of a cost-optimisation programme, Cablenet will consolidate data centres and simplify hub-site infrastructure by shifting network functions from legacy hardware to Harmonic’s software platform. This approach reduces space, power and cabling requirements, lowers OPEX and streamlines day-to-day operations.

The transition also gives Cablenet access to Harmonic’s Central AI-driven network intelligence, providing greater visibility, more efficient monitoring, faster troubleshooting and improved service assurance.

Harmonic will showcase its latest broadband innovations at Network X from 13–15 October at booth L71. Meeting information is available at harmonicinc.com/events/network-x.

According to Dell'Oro Group, Harmonic is the market-share leader in cable broadband equipment, virtual CMTS and DAA. The company's cOS platform powers next-generation broadband services through more than 48 million CPE devices for operators across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
