Harmonic Unveils Recon Network Monitoring Suite
Harmonic has introduced Recon, a portfolio of network monitoring and measurement solutions created in collaboration with Comcast to help broadband providers spot issues earlier, pinpoint their location and accelerate fixes.
The first release in the Recon line is built on XMFR fibre monitoring technology developed by Comcast and proven in its own network.
Harmonic and Comcast have adapted the technology into a commercial offering for broadband operators and other infrastructure owners, combining Comcast’s network expertise with Harmonic’s broadband portfolio and global reach. Comcast’s system continuously monitors performance to identify changes that may indicate degradation or fibre cuts and supplies precise location details to network teams.
Recon blends in-network monitoring hardware and handheld diagnostic tools with cloud-based software to provide real-time visibility across fibre infrastructure. It also integrates with Harmonic's cOS SensAI intelligence fabric, which uses telemetry gathered by Recon to proactively detect faults and validate remediation.
"Subscribers today expect nothing less than a flawless connectivity experience. With broadband networks expanding rapidly, operators often lack the real-time visibility to detect minor issues before they become large-scale outages," said Yaniv Ben-Soussan, Senior Vice President of Cloud and Intelligence Platform at Harmonic. "Our new Recon family gives broadband service providers the critical intelligence they need to detect problems early and confidently deliver exceptional connectivity that build long-term subscriber loyalty."
According to Harmonic, Recon is designed to help operators act before customers notice by continuously flagging network degradation and service-impacting events while identifying the severity and exact location of faults. It aims to shorten repair times by giving field technicians more precise diagnostics, and to extend visibility cost-effectively across access, metro and core domains as well as data centre interconnect links.
"XMFR grew out of a challenge our teams were solving every day inside Comcast’s network: how to see problems developing across fiber infrastructure and give our teams better information to address them quickly," said Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer, Comcast. "Our work with Harmonic takes that innovation beyond our own network, combining Comcast-developed technology with Harmonic's capabilities to give other operators a smarter way to monitor and manage their fiber infrastructure."
