Rohde & Schwarz Launches Integrated Multi-Channel Pulse Analysis

Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the R&S FSWX-KM700 pulse analysis option for its FSWX multi-channel signal and spectrum analyser, expanding it into a dedicated platform for evaluating how Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) jammers capture, replicate and alter radar pulses.

With the extension, the dual‑channel, phase‑coherent FSWX can measure key pulse characteristics — width, amplitude, rise and fall times, pulse repetition interval, duty cycle, shape and overshoot — enabling engineers to verify whether a jammer accurately recreates the original radar pulse envelope, where small timing or amplitude deviations can undermine a deception signal’s credibility.

The software also assesses complete pulse trains, deriving pulse repetition frequency spectra and pulse‑to‑pulse variation. It supports chirped pulses as well as pulse‑width, pulse‑position and phase‑modulated waveforms, so users can confirm that equipment handles modern radar modulation schemes across both the envelope and modulation content.

Triggering can be set by amplitude, pulse width, pulse repetition interval or user‑defined patterns to isolate events within long sequences. For extended acquisitions, R&S FSWX-KM700 aggregates results over many captured pulses to expose repeatability and consistency over time and to reveal timing or modulation errors that appear only under specific conditions.

Dedicated visualisations include parameter trends for analysing DRFM electronic attack techniques; capture versus time views to quantify jammer response time and stimulus‑to‑response latency; and per‑pulse displays of amplitude, frequency and phase to confirm that no distortions are introduced by the jammer. These link pulse‑level analysis directly to jammer behaviour.

Combining phase‑coherent multi‑channel analysis with pulse, pulse‑train, modulation and segmented capture capabilities in a single instrument, the new option strengthens the FSWX’s role in DRFM test workflows and supports verification of signal fidelity, timing and consistency in agile electronic warfare scenarios.
