The 7th Cinemagic ON THE PULSE FESTIVAL, celebrating the short film genre, funded by the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen, is presenting a March programme of unmissable international and home-grown films, audience vote screenings and hands on workshops in Belfast for aspiring film, television and media creators.

The world cinema programme, featuring Once Upon A Time in Dragonville, Mermaids, and A New Garden offers a cinematic window to the world presenting a diverse range of storytelling, celebrating universal stories of youth and youth perspectives.

In Extraordinary Tales, five of Edgar Allan Poe's best-known stories are brought to vivid life in a heart-pounding animated anthology featuring an all-star voice cast including Sir Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi and Guillermo del Toro.

The Animatrix, will thrill animation fans, with nine original short films in CG animation and Japanese Anime, inspired by the visionary action and innovative storytelling of the Matrix trilogy.

Other highlights include Pompon Little Bear, adapted from the books by Benjamin Chaud, and Sparrows, collection of short animations designed to appeal to young people and families.

Silly Symphonies, a selection of musical short films produced by Walt Disney in the 1920’s and 1930’s will illuminate the silver screen at Queen’s Film Theatre. The Silly Symphony shorts were originally intended as whimsical accompaniments to pieces of music but have become known for playing an important historical role in technical innovations including in Technicolor. Classic Cartoons will delight young audiences as they follow the adventures of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and friends!

Emerging filmmakers’ talents will be celebrated on screen at the On The Pulse Young Filmmaker Competition showcases in Queen's Film Theatre, celebrating live action, documentary and animation.

The exhibition of the 2024/25 Cinemagic BFI Film Academy ‘Short Courses’ films and Cinemagic produced cross-border and cross community films made in partnership with young trainees will also be premiered.

Hands-on insights and learnings will explore podcasting, writing, presenting, digital filmmaking and animation all set to inspire next-gen creatives.
