GlobalM Powers International Distribution

News Image
GlobalM provided the media distribution infrastructure supporting international live coverage of the 2026 World Rowing Championships, working with production and distribution company quattro media GmbH and World Rowing, the sport's global governing body.

Held from August 24-30 at Amsterdam's historic Bosbaan racecourse, the championships brought together more than 830 athletes from 64 nations competing across 23 boat classes. Live coverage was distributed to broadcasters and digital platforms worldwide through World Rowing’s international rights-holder network.

GlobalM's GMX Cloud platform provided the software-defined media infrastructure used to distribute the event's World Feed to international broadcasters and other rights holders. Its distributed architecture uses Points of Presence located close to receiving organisations, helping to reduce the internet path between the GlobalM network and individual recipients.

quattro media managed the distribution workflow through the GMX platform, with each day's requirements scheduled in advance. The necessary infrastructure, routes and receiver connections could then be established automatically according to the day’s racing programme.

The workflow also supported digital distribution, enabling the same contribution feed to serve World Rowing’s online platforms alongside traditional broadcast rights holders. This allowed both broadcast and digital services to operate from a common distribution architecture.

A key element of the system was the ability to reuse established configurations across events. quattro media has deployed GlobalM for multiple World Rowing productions, allowing receiver endpoints, permissions and SRT connection details to be retained between regattas rather than recreated for each event.

This persistent infrastructure enabled new World Rowing events to build on previously established workflows. Templates and receiver configurations could be reused, while additional takers could be added as required.

For quattro media, the approach reduced the need to repeatedly rebuild the underlying international distribution workflow for each production. For rights holders, it provided a consistent reception environment, with established connection details and endpoints remaining available across successive World Rowing events.

The result was a repeatable distribution model designed to support the changing requirements of international sports coverage while maintaining established connections between the production operation and global rights holders.
