Genelec Launches 9402A To Bring Dante To Smart Active Monitoring

Genelec has expanded its UNIO monitoring ecosystem with the 9402A System Management Device for Audio-over-IP networking, delivering Dante and AES67 compatibility across its Smart Active Monitors and Subwoofers. Sitting alongside the existing 9401A (which supports Ravenna, ST2110 and AES67), the 9402A strengthens Genelec's focus on networked workflows and enables highly flexible, scalable and future‑ready monitoring solutions.

Acting as a bridge between conventional AES/EBU signal paths and AoIP infrastructures, the 9402A handles up to 16 channels of digital audio via a DB25 connector. Dedicated AES/EBU XLR outputs facilitate subwoofer integration and auxiliary stereo monitoring, supporting versatile routing to in‑room loudspeakers and professional headphones, with seamless switching between the two. High‑resolution audio is supported at up to 192 kHz and 32‑bit, fully in the digital domain to preserve signal quality.

Deep integration with Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software enables complete system calibration, including subwoofer alignment and bass management. The subwoofer output allows Smart Active Subwoofers to be chained for increased low‑frequency SPL, while system channel counts can be expanded by adding further 9402A units to accommodate formats such as 22.2 and other high channel‑count immersive configurations.

Network performance includes Gigabit Ethernet low‑latency operation, broadcast‑grade redundant connectivity and modern streaming control integration. Security is enhanced via Dante Media Encryption, employing AES 256‑bit key‑protected audio transport and support for centrally managed security policies. Audio is moved between AoIP and AES/EBU using low‑latency OSI Layer 3 technologies, enabling routing across IP subnets, between buildings, or over wide‑area networks for greater reach and scalability.

Built in Iisalmi, Finland, the compact 1U rack‑mount 9402A is engineered for long‑term reliability and efficiency. Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) minimises power consumption when idle, and single‑cable network connectivity simplifies facility management while reducing cabling complexity and cost, contributing to sustainability goals.
