Genelec Rolls Out Aural ID 2.1 With Smoother Workflow And Enhanced Binaural Monitoring

News Image
Genelec, a global leader in professional monitoring, has introduced Aural ID 2.1, the latest version of its HRTF‑based binaural headphone monitoring application. Designed to deliver faithful mixes with precise spatial imaging, depth and tonal balance, the update brings a suite of workflow and transparency improvements. Acting as a virtual sound card on Mac, Aural ID 2.1 pairs with any brand of professional headphones and forms a key part of Genelec's expanding UNIO monitoring ecosystem.

A central change in version 2.1 is a clearer file structure: personal Aural ID profiles are now grouped in a dedicated Profiles folder, while user configurations are saved separately in a Setups folder. This separation simplifies management of individual HRTF profiles alongside session‑specific setups.

The interface has been streamlined so Output EQ and Envelopment are accessible directly from the main view for quicker tweaks and more fluid decision‑making. Settings pages now use explicit confirmation steps, ensuring changes are intentional and only committed to a setup when approved. Expanded bypass options — including LF Envelopment and Output EQ — allow instant A/B comparisons between processed and unprocessed audio.

Head Tracking and Virtual Monitor Channels pages have been refined for a smoother, more intuitive configuration. Aural ID 2.1 continues to ship with separate head‑tracking software that uses a camera connected to the computer, now with enhanced controls. Tools for personal calibration — including virtual loudspeaker azimuth and elevation, plus subjective sound colour — have also been simplified to improve monitoring accuracy.

Overall responsiveness has been boosted through more efficient HRTF profile loading and upgraded audio processing for reliable performance in demanding production scenarios. A new audio buffering status indicator on the main screen provides immediate visibility of processing conditions.

Visual feedback has been sharpened with revised output level meter scaling and signal indicators embedded in the virtual monitor icons. Additional refinements — from improved window resizing behaviour to updated channel naming — contribute to a cleaner, more coherent UI.

"Aural ID is unique in enabling audio professionals to really trust every detail of their headphone mix – whether they're working in stereo, or crafting complex immersive audio experiences," comments Genelec's Managing Director Siamäk Naghian. "With the new 2.1 update, we've created an even more streamlined workflow, empowering engineers, producers, and audio content creators to move seamlessly between studio and mobile production environments with total confidence."

Aural ID 2.1 is available as either an annual subscription or a perpetual licence, with a 30‑day trial downloadable from www.genelec.com/aural-id.
