Belgrade Waterworks Modernises Conferencing

Belgrade Waterworks & Sewerage has upgraded its conferencing capabilities through a collaboration with TRS and VITEC, introducing a new IPTV-based system designed to improve communication across its operations.

The Serbian utility provider, which manages water and sewerage services across Belgrade, undertook the project to address limitations in its legacy conferencing setup. Increasing demand for reliable, high-quality audio and video—particularly for hybrid meetings involving remote participants—highlighted the need for a more modern and scalable solution.

Previously, BVK relied on a custom-built AV control and distribution system that had become difficult to maintain. The ageing infrastructure required dedicated technical staff at each event, while outdated components lacked vendor support and replacement options. The organisation sought a system that would simplify operations, enhance the user experience and enable live streaming, recording and replay of conferences.

To meet these requirements, TRS deployed a comprehensive IPTV solution built on VITEC's Avedia platform, alongside its ChannelLink gateway. The system allows BVK to capture, manage and distribute live and on-demand video content across its headquarters and remote sites. Recorded sessions are also uploaded to the organisation’s private YouTube channel, providing centralised access to past events.

The installation includes multiple VITEC media players across the main facility and three remote offices, enabling senior staff to participate in meetings without the need for travel. A professional PTZ camera from Avonic was selected to deliver high-quality imaging, supporting resolutions up to 4K.

Operating over BVK's dedicated fibre network, the system ensures low latency, improved reliability and enhanced security. Additional integrations include display technology from Samsung and wireless presentation tools from Barco, while the existing audio system was adapted for compatibility.

TRS also provided on-site training and documentation, enabling BVK’s internal engineering team to independently manage and operate the new infrastructure.

The upgrade has significantly improved the conferencing experience, with clearer audio and video quality and greater accessibility for remote participants. Maintenance has been streamlined through remote management tools, and the intuitive interface allows non-technical staff to operate the system with ease.

Looking ahead, BVK plans to expand the IPTV network to additional sites and explore new applications such as digital signage and public information broadcasting. The scalable design ensures the system can evolve alongside the organisation’s future needs.
