Mustard TV Choose NewTek System For Its Broadcast Operations

Mustard TV has chosen a NewTek TriCaster 8000 multi-camera production system as the hub of its broadcast operations, as it prepares to broadcast to Norwich and the surrounding area on Freeview Channel 8 beginning in March 2014.
Mustard TV is the newly created broadcasting division of Archant, one of the UK's largest independently owned regional media businesses which owns and operates regional newspapers, magazines, websites and events to serve specific areas and communities. The local TV station will reach around 160,000 households, providing local news, community information and interaction with viewers via live broadcasts and social media channels.
Fiona Ryder, Managing Director, Mustard TV, said: "The TriCaster is a hugely exciting piece of technology for this new era of local broadcasting in the UK. It gives us the ability to create highly professional content with an affordable budget. It has a rich and immensely powerful toolset that is easy to use and allows us to produce high quality studio shows with fewer production personnel. In addition, the real time social media publishing feature of the system enables us to interact with our community of viewers in ways that previously haven't been possible for local broadcasters."
The station will broadcast from a green screen studio, utilising NewTek's live virtual sets to present a different look for each programme. The studio is equipped with remote control cameras that feed into the TriCaster. The studio inputs are mixed live with pre-loaded graphics and effects, and external feeds including Skype, social media feeds and location cameras, and broadcast digitally on Freeview Channel 8.
Initially Mustard TV will broadcast live news and sport bulletins on weekday evenings, plus a nightly magazine programme which will include live studio discussions, pre-recorded VTs, social media feeds and live links to people on the street. More programmes will be developed as the station matures.
Other winners of local TV licences are looking at Mustard TV's technical set-up as an innovative production approach that may serve as a potential model for transforming their production operations in the future.
