Movistar+ Upgrades Its Studio

News Image
Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, responsible for the Movistar+ entertainment platform, has successfully completed the implementation of a new Sony MLS-X1 video mixer in its broadcast production center.

The mixer is integrated into the first SMPTE-2110 studio located at the Tres Cantos production centre, marking the beginning of their transition from SDI to IP technology.

Movistar+ faced the challenge of incorporating a video mixer that could fit naturally into an SMPTE-2110 workflow while interacting seamlessly with the leading broadcast controllers on the market. Sony, with its longstanding relationship with the television platform and its Networked Live offering, ensured that these two objectives were met and guaranteed seamless integration with the industry's leading control systems.

To meet all the requirements of the set, an MLS-X1 mixer equipped with a single processor node and two input/output cards was chosen. This processing core was complemented by an ICP-X7000 control panel, equipped with four mixing/effect banks and an auxiliary bank.

The processing and I/O management capabilities of the Sony MLS-X1 far exceeded the immediate needs of the production, providing additional performance headroom for future load growth. Thanks to its modular and scalable architecture, the MLS-X1 allows systems to be configured with multiple interconnected units, a flexibility that is key in the Movistar+ production center.

"Thanks to this configuration, Movistar+ not only covers the current signal volume, but also has a scalable platform ready to add additional inputs, outputs, and functionalities without having to replace the heart of the system," explained Juan Antonio Piñar, Project Engineer at Movistar+, adding, "With this technological upgrade, Movistar+ reinforces its commitment to innovation and the quality of its broadcasts, consolidating its position as a benchmark in broadcast production in Spain."

Another key aspect has been the implementation of the system with a surprisingly short learning curve thanks to the operators' previous experience with Sony's line of mixers.

Operations staff received specialized training in the use of the MLS-X1, and a second phase of advanced technical training for the engineering and maintenance teams is pending.
"Our long-standing relationship with the Movistar+ team and our knowledge of their operations has enabled us to offer the best product for their needs and support them throughout the implementation process with specific training and ongoing advice," said David Anaya, Channel & Key Account Manager Regional Sales South.
