RTBF chooses Leader LV5700A HD analyser

Belgian public service broadcaster RTBF has chosen Leader's LV5700A multistandard digital HD/SD waveform analyser and vectorscope to assist preparations for high definition television production.
A working group has been formed at the network's Brussels headquarters to plan construction of RTBF's first HD-capable outside-broadcast vehicle. Central to this project, the LV5700A will be used by the technical department which supports and maintains all the network's engineering infrastructure.
One of Europe's most respected broadcasters, RTBF has a long track record of technical excellence and is actively studying the prospects of both HD acquisition and postproduction with the eventual aim of direct-to-home 16:9 digital HD transmission.
Etienne Bastin, senior engineer at RTBF, commented: "The LV5700A was selected following intensive pre-purchase evaluation. It is used to check the timing precision of equipment by measuring optical chroma dispersion. The instrument is operationally intuitive and efficient with controls which can be learnt quickly and easily.
"A key reason for the choice was the high resolution 6.5 inch 1024 x 768 pixel XGA TFT screen. This allows rapid overview of four simultaneous display modes, switchable to full-screen zoom mode for maximum measurement accuracy.
"We were impressed by the unit's high operational versatility including waveform, vector and eyepattern display, multiple measuring modes, SD-SDI and HD-SDI support, adjustable alarms, data dump and embedded audio. The LV5700A also has a very good ATA and network interface," he said.
