Netflix To Distribute New Steven Soderbergh Film Worldwide

News Image
Netflix has acquired the rights to distribute director Steven Soderbergh's new film 'High Flying Bird' worldwide.

Written by 'Moonlight' scribe Tarell Alvin McCraney, 'High Flying Birds' is set during a pro basketball lockout when a sports agent pitches a rookie basketball client on an intriguing and controversial business proposition.

The cast includes André Holland, Zazie Beetz, Melvin Gregg, Sonja Sohn, Zachary Quinto, Kyle MacLachlan, Bill Duke.

Soderbergh said: "We had several strong options for distributing 'High Flying Bird', but to borrow the patois of the movie itself, this deal felt like a slam dunk and the perfect way for me to begin my relationship with Netflix as a director."

He recently directed 'Unsane' starring Claire Foy, which was released earlier this year. His other high profile projects include 'Ocean's Eleven' and 'Magic Mike'.

Netflix will release 'High Flying Bird' globally in 2019.
