Higher Bitrates At IBC

News Image
It goes without saying that attendance figures at IBC shows ever increasing numbers. Bearing in mind the number of exhibitors has increased with more halls and stands, as has the number of stand personnel, it's not surprising overall figures have gone up.

Over the years the visitor to exhibitor ratios have actually kept pace, the overall percentage varying little. Having said that, the increasingly higher bitrates envisaged in the future during IBC confirm IP is here to stay. Indeed, with increasing internet speeds available in the cloud, will hardware eventually become redundant, replaced by APs in the cloud?

Until that time there is no doubt that video production and transport over high capacity IP networks is being implemented in OBs, studios, operational television infrastructure and broadcast arenas. The emergence of 10G/s to 100Gb/s network technology, COTS switching planes, standardisation of formats JPEG 2000, ASPEN, SMPTE 2020 and 2100 ensure this new transport mechanism will not disappear like 3D did. The requirement therefore for service visibility tools has never been more prominent.

During IBC, the Hamlet Enterprise VX3 was launched; the high bitrate media stream analyser and replacement for its award-winning siblings that paved the way in portable IP stream analysis. The fundamental capability and flexibility of the Enterprise is well established. Now with the addition of a new dual 10Gb/s interface to accommodate higher bitrate flows over IP networks, it provides the best of breed monitoring and verification solution available.

The tool box to choose from now includes Dual IP, ASI input and output, RF, SFP, HD/SDI interfaces with deep IP stream packet interrogation quality of service to TR 101 290, bitrate trending and graphing, monitoring of OTT manifest files and ABR chunks plus real time recording and playback of streams.

Hamlet also launched new 4K, 3G-SDI and SFP Converters and Routing Switchers with seven variants to suite your application. Plus, MSC-XDM modular Fibre to SDI Routers and switchers offer extremely high level flexibility, with three base models enabling optimisation of operation and unit cost. Each unit is user expandable. Modular systems can be independently expanded by 8 input or 8 output modular I/O cards, allowing for asymmetrical matrix sizes.

Finally, Hamlet showed off the new Hamlet MicroFlex Mach2 EYE, the latest in a line of award-winning hand portable measurement and monitoring instruments. The Mach2 EYE, coming in at sub two thousand pounds, is hard to beat. Contact [email protected] to make your appointment.
