Calrec supply RTE sports studio

Irish Broadcaster RTE have purchased a 38 channel Sigma 100 digital console from Calrec for their main sports studio in Dublin.
RTE will install the console into Studio 6 at Television Centre as part of a move towards full digital transmission.
Studio 6 is RTE’s Live Sports Studio and transmits The Premiership, the Scottish Premier League and 6 Nations Rugby, as well as the Rugby World Cup. RTE are also the only station to transmit the Premier League free-to- air.
“Calrec understand broadcaster’s needs in a way no other manufacturer does,” said RTE’s Senior Sound Supervisor Ian Pike. “It was natural that when Calrec produced a mid priced console it would be a serious contender for us.
“We are planning to switch to full digital transmission, and the vision side of things was digitised two years ago. As our current sound desk reaches the end of it life it was an opportune time to switch to a digital sound console.
“We particularly like the speed of the boot up time, Flash ROM, and the fact that the console is completely independent of the PC. We also liked the ability to see where each channel fader is routed, whether it is mic/line or digi, and whether it is routed to the Mix minus bus.
“We have a number of Calrec analogue consoles and these have proven themselves down the years for quality of sound, reliability and ease of use with all our Sound Supervisors.”
