Terrorvision return to stage & screen with Audio-Technica

Four years after calling it a day – after 14 years and five top selling albums – Terrorvision regrouped last month for a week-long sell-out tour, and a live video shoot.
Long serving FOH engineer Walter Jaquiss also returned for the reunion, bringing with him his Audio-Technica mic kit to ensure the best possible sound quality.
A devotee of Audio-Technica on stage, Jaquiss carries an extensive selection of A-Ts, whatever artist he is working with. For Terrorvision, he mic’d the kit with AE3000 side firing cardioid condensers for top and bottom snare, AT4041 small condensers on hi-hats and ride, ATM35 condenser clip-ons for toms, and AE5100 large diaphragm, cardioid condensers on overheads. The unique AE2500 dual-element, dynamic/condenser instrument mic was deployed on one guitar cab, and another AE3000 on the other.
For backing vocals, Jaquiss chose a combination of Artist Elite AE6100 hyper-cardioid vocal dynamics and ATM89 hyper-cardioid condensers. For lead vocals an Artist Elite 5000 Series Wireless system was chosen, with an AEW5400 handheld transmitter, with a large diaphragm, cardioid vocal condenser capsule, derived from the classic AT4050 studio design.
“I wanted a condenser and something that was very stable, and we really liked the clarity of the AEW5400 out front in the mix,” said Jaquiss.
“I’ve become a big fan of A-Ts over recent years. It’s about knowing your tools, what they’re going to give you, in terms of great sound and performance.”
The London Forum date was recorded for a live DVD-V, scheduled for release by EMI later in the year. The same A-T mic set up provided the feeds for the 5.1 soundtrack, with only the overheads being replaced with AT4050s at the recording engineers request, to provide more kit sound rather than the tighter pick-up Jaquiss had been using for the FOH mix.
Jaquiss is currently deploying his A-T mic kit with Paradise Lost on their current European tour, and for Steve Winwood on his forthcoming US tour.
