Northern Ireland nomination success for Irish Film & TV Awards

The NIFTC, joint-sponsors with the Irish Film Board of the Best New Talent category in this year’s IFTAs, are pleased to announce that the NIFTC-funded ‘Freeze Frame’ and ‘Blind Flight’ have been nominated in a number of categories at this year's IFTA Awards.
Freeze Frame has been short listed in three categories; Best Cinematography for Mark Garrett; Best Production Design for Ashleigh Jeffers; and Best New Talent for the film’s director John Simpson.
‘Blind Flight’ from Parallax Independent Productions has also been shortlised in three categories; Best Film jury award; The AIB People’s Choice Award; and Stephen McKeon has been nominated for the theme music in the Best Music category.
Pearse Elliott, writer and director of the NIFTC-funded ‘The Mighty Celt’ has also been shortlisted in two categories; Best script for ‘Man About Dog’; and Best new talent for Man About Dog.
The Best Documentary category has seen four of the six nominations go to productions from Northern Irish production companies. Perfect Cousin’s NIFTC-backed ‘Battle Of The Bogside’ has been shortlisted alongside DoubleBand’s ‘Christine’s Children’ and Mint Productions will be pleased to hear that two of their documentaries, ‘Shutdown Inside Ulster’ and ‘Who Kidnapped Shergar’ are both shortlisted.
About-Face Media have also gone through, this time in the Sports category for their documentary ‘Martin O’Neil – Man And Bhoy’.
Richard Williams, Chief Executive at the NIFTC, said: “This year’s IFTA nominations are proof that the television and film sector in Northern Ireland is booming. The NIFTC are proud that two of our funded productions, Freeze Frame and Blind Flight have done so well, and are pleased that the a number of our Northern Irish production companies which we actively support have also succeeded in getting through. We wish these and all other NI nominees good luck at the awards which will be announced at a ceremony in Dublin on 30 October.”
