Animator Scoops Best Film At National Student Awards
An Animation graduate from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) at Farnham has won Best Film at the prestigious Screentest Film Festival.
Bexie Bush won the overall prize at the National Student Film Festival Awards in London on Saturday (24 March) with her animated short Ever hear a Postman Whistle?
This is her third major honour of the year having already won at the RTS Southern Awards and BFI Future Film Festival.
Bexie, who is 21 and from Southport, said: "It's such an honour to win Best Film at Screentest, especially as my entry was an animated short and up against some amazing live action films.
"Winning outside of the animation category has inspired me to possibly explore documentary work or live action filmmaking – in fact, I'm considering using live action in my graduate film now.
"These awards are giving me so much confidence and helping me to meet and network with some very clever and creative people so I don’t take any of them for granted."
The 2011 BA (Hons) Animation graduate pitched the stop-motion film to the BBC and Open University while at UCA as part of their Creative Climate competition.
She was mentored by Dr. Joe Smith, Senior Lecturer in Environment at the Open University, and BBC executive Jon Plowman, who commissioned and produced hits such as The Office, French & Saunders and Little Britain.
Bexie added: "UCA has wonderful links with the industry and is great at offering its students opportunities to work with major companies and enter big competitions - this film might not have happened without that support."
