QuickLink StudioEdge Helps MTV Oy Streamline Remote Interviews And Live Reporting
MTV Oy, Finland's largest commercial broadcaster, has adopted QuickLink StudioEdge™ to simplify remote guest contributions and bolster the resilience of its live productions across news, current affairs, sport and entertainment.
The move supports MTV Oy's mission "to reach every Finnish citizen, anytime and anywhere," improving access to expert voices while tightening technical reliability under fast-moving newsroom conditions.
MTV Oy's output ranges from morning and afternoon current affairs programming and special reports to major national events such as elections, alongside its flagship 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. bulletins. These strands depend heavily on remote commentators, specialists and professionals located across Finland and worldwide, making speed, ease of connection and consistency essential to editorial delivery.
"We strive to deliver breaking news through rapid live coverage, tell the stories that matter most and provide comprehensive sports productions from Finland and around the world." said Pirkka Maksimainen, Technology and Service Development Manager, News Productions at MTV Oy.
The broadcaster's remote workflow has evolved with QuickLink over several years. After first using QuickLink Skype TX, MTV Oy moved to QuickLink StudioCall™ to let contributors join via a web browser at short notice. As requirements broadened, the team sought even greater flexibility to accommodate more platforms and contributor preferences without adding friction.
"Before integrating StudioEdge, we evaluated various remote contribution solutions. The main challenge was that many solutions required contributors to install an application or sign in to a specific service. StudioEdge gives us much greater flexibility, allowing us to continue using StudioCall while also introducing guests via platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Its platform-agnostic approach enables contributors to join in the way that is most convenient for them, helping us conduct interviews quickly and seamlessly without creating additional barriers for guests." said Pirkka Maksimainen, MTV Oy.
StudioEdge's NVIDIA-powered audio and video enhancement further lifts the quality of external contributions, helping ensure clear pictures and sound whatever device or environment guests use. Reporters can set up interviews by phone, producers can keep contributors briefed and connected, and guests simply join from the device they already carry. Within StudioEdge, producers can monitor the programme feed and hear mix-minus, enabling them to follow the rundown and participate naturally during live segments.
MTV Oy's two-channel StudioEdge configuration gives news and sports teams more autonomy to run their own remote hits efficiently, and the platform is used extensively across morning and afternoon current affairs shows. It is equally valuable for special reports and large-scale events, such as election coverage, where rapid access to remote expertise is vital.
"In these productions, StudioEdge has made it possible to reach professionals and experts across the globe quickly and cost-effectively. This has improved both the technical reliability of remote contributions and the storytelling possibilities." said Pirkka Maksimainen, MTV Oy.
By removing logistical hurdles and streamlining guest participation, StudioEdge helps MTV Oy deliver timely analysis to viewers while strengthening both editorial depth and production agility. The broadcaster views the platform as a strategic, long-term component of its workflow. "As the camera quality on mobile devices continues to improve, they provide an increasingly valuable tool for storytelling," says Maksimainen. "We see StudioEdge as an important part of our future productions as we continue to expand these capabilities."
