SipRadius Responds To Global PHP Vulnerabilities

SipRadius has updated its systems and made new firmware available to customers following a global issue involving PHP vulnerabilities, saying its control over its operating system and infrastructure enabled it to respond within minutes.

The company, which specialises in secure content processing and connectivity, said its cloud infrastructure and systems deployed at key customer sites could potentially have been at risk. However, it reported that no vulnerabilities had been exploited.

"PHP is such a central part of the connected world, our systems were not exempt from the action," said Sergio Ammirata Ph.D., SipRadius Chief Scientist. "The machines in our own cloud and those at key clients were potentially at risk, although no exploited vulnerabilities were identified.

"The important point is that we run our own operating systems – CoralOS, developed specifically for media applications – and manage our infrastructure, so we were able to react immediately," Ammirata said. "We identified potential issues, created new firmware, and upgraded our in-house cloud network of more than 40 machines in just a few minutes. The same updates have been made available to all users of our technology on their own hardware."

PHP vulnerabilities raise questions for the IP industry
SipRadius said the incident highlights the importance of security and rapid response across the IP industry, particularly for suppliers serving the media sector.

"Make no mistake: this has been a huge wake-up call for the IP industry, and all leading suppliers and players must learn the lessons," he commented. "For our part, we are proud and positive that, by being immersed in the specific needs of the media industry and by owning key parts of the ecosystem like the CoralOS operating system, we can respond quickly, accurately and securely to challenges like this, ensuring our users can continue their work with minimal disruption."

The company said its ownership of CoralOS, an operating system developed specifically for media applications, and its management of its own infrastructure helped it identify potential issues, deploy updates across its cloud network and distribute the same firmware updates to customers running its technology on their own hardware.

SipRadius technology is used by broadcasters, content producers and streaming networks worldwide. The company was recently recognised with a Technology & Engineering Emmy® by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).
