PlayBox Neo Boosts Broadcast Automation

News Image
layBox Neo US has expanded its broadcast automation platform with updates designed to tighten operator access, speed the availability of newly ingested media, and improve coordination between programming, traffic and playout.

The release emphasises role-based security, EditShare integration delivered in partnership with EMAM Solutions, added electronic programme guide (EPG) capabilities, and deeper BXF connectivity with traffic systems.

PlayBox Neo Suite now employs role-based user management so administrators can assign granular permissions to defined roles. Editors, operators and engineers work within privileges aligned to their duties, strengthening security, accountability and day-to-day transparency in fast-paced, multi-user production environments.

Support for Active Directory via LDAP with SSL allows organisations to handle logins and permissions through existing IT frameworks. This simplifies account administration and helps align operations with enterprise security standards as facilities integrate into larger corporate networks.

Working with EMAM Solutions, the PlayBox Neo ingest engine now connects directly to EditShare’s media asset management (MAM) system. The link accelerates access to incoming content and improves media tracking across connected platforms.

With the integration, content is automatically registered and made available for editing while recording continues, reducing the gap between capture and production. News and sports teams can begin cutting before ingest completes; once recording ends, the finished media is auto-registered in EditShare, and where proxy creation is enabled, proxies are registered as well.

Enhanced EPG functionality has been added to the PlayBox Neo playlist, bringing richer electronic programme guide support to the scheduling workflow. The guide is closely tied to the playlist that drives channel output, helping broadcasters manage both scheduled content and the programme data viewers use to find it. Accurate EPG information remains vital to ensure schedules align precisely with target audiences.

BXF (Broadcast Exchange Format) integration has also been strengthened, with BXF formatting incorporated into the playlist to enable two-way communication with traffic software. Developed by SMPTE, BXF provides a common language for scheduling, advertising traffic and automation systems to exchange data, keeping programme schedules and commercial insertions in step when ad breaks change.

When traffic teams revise a commercial block, the update must be received, acknowledged and reconciled with the playout schedule. The BXF connection delivers this return communication, giving traffic departments confirmation that a change has been received rather than leaving uncertainty around delivery to playout.

This live exchange offers more up-to-date operational insight than waiting for an as-run log to review what aired. PlayBox Neo customer Cheddar TV utilises this approach within its workflow.
