Rohde & Schwarz Launches SAM200 System Amplifier

Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the SAM200 system amplifier as a successor companion to the established SAM100, broadening the company's system amplifier portfolio into higher frequency ranges. While the SAM100 spans 2 GHz to 20 GHz, the new SAM200 and SAM200 Advanced models cover 20 GHz to 53 GHz with up to 4 watts of saturation power, addressing fast-rising demand for Ka‑, Q‑ and V‑band testing in next‑generation satellite systems and modern telecommunications standards.

Positioned as a high‑performance gain block, the SAM200 is complemented by the SAM200 Advanced, which adds an integrated power detector, USB and LAN interfaces, a web GUI and a switchable three‑path architecture. Users can toggle between low noise/high gain, regular and low gain modes to optimise EVM signal quality when paired with vector signal generators or network analysers.

Developed for RF‑component testing scenarios where signal generators or vector network analysers may have limited output power, the SAM200 family delivers excellent RF performance, strong linearity and low noise characteristics. Its wide frequency span enables one amplifier to replace multiple narrowband units, helping to reduce lab footprints and overall system costs. Both desktop and 4 HU rack‑mounted versions are available to suit different integration needs.

As a solid‑state power amplifier, the SAM200 incorporates robust output mismatch protection and a gradual power foldback mechanism to sustain operation under challenging load conditions, protecting equipment and minimising downtime.
