Dielectric Launches New 1.4-GHz Circularly Polarized Antenna For MobileMedia

A division of SPX and a leader in broadcast antenna systems, Dielectric Communications, has introduced a new antenna designed to support the rapidly expanding international MobileMedia market.
Dielectric's new L-Band, 1.4-GHz high-power, circularly polarized broadband antenna builds upon the company's proven pylon antenna technology by featuring both azimuth and elevation pattern versatility in a single "common box" package.
Dielectric's "common box" approach improves network planning capabilities by allowing broadcasters to adjust the transmission pattern without changing the mechanical specifications of the antenna design.
Network planners are able to perform a comprehensive analysis of all possible site locations that can accommodate a single specific set of mechanical specifications. The antenna's pattern versatility then gives network planners the ability to blanket a region with the most effective coverage.
Dielectric President Garrett VanAtta said: "Our new 1.4-GHz circularly polarized pylon patch antenna offers a distinctive and comprehensive feature set for broadcasters looking to make the leap into mobile media broadcasting. The antenna's pattern versatility makes it easier than ever for broadcasters to plan their network and make adjustments to suit their specific regions and broadcasting needs. The combination of features our antenna offers makes it truly unique."
The aesthetically pleasing, low-win--load construction of the new antenna allows for either side - or top-mounting and provides an excellent axial ratio, a 1- to 4-kW input power rating, gains from 15 to 19 dBi, a VSWR of less than 1:1:1 and 10- to 24-kW ERP/polarization.
VanAtta added: "Circularly polarized antennas have emerged as the broadcasting industry's gold standard for ensuring reliable service in mobile TV applications. Prior to the introduction of our new antenna, the only L-Band products available were vertically polarized whip style antennas. Collinear dipole whip antennas are power limited and linearly polarized, which do not offer the service reliability that circular polarization provides.
"Our new antenna blends the best of both worlds by providing high-power, circularly polarized broadband coverage with flexible, effective transmission patterns."
